Ba Den Mountain: cable cars, pagodas and the summit
A single granite mountain, 986 metres high, standing alone above the plain. The old pilgrimage path to the Ba pagoda now shares the slope with three cable car lines and a summit plaza built around a 72-metre bronze statue. The mountain is easy to reach and very easy to visit on the wrong day.

What the mountain is like now
Ba Den, the "Black Lady" mountain, is also called Van Son, the cloud mountain, because its summit is often in cloud. VnExpress describes it as the highest peak in the South-east region. For centuries it was a pilgrimage site: the pagoda halfway up, Linh Son Tien Thach Tu, dates from 1763 and is described by Saigon Giai Phong as the oldest Buddhist pagoda in Tay Ninh. Around it are other pagodas and caves, including Chua Hang, Chua Quan Am and Linh Son Hoa Dong.
Since the cable cars opened, the mountain has become a large managed resort as well as a shrine. The summit now has a plaza, a 72-metre bronze statue of the Bodhisattva known as Tay Bo Da Son, a 36-metre sandstone statue of Maitreya, a Buddhist art exhibition of about 2,000 square metres, a film theatre and a buffet restaurant. It is clean, organised and busy. Visitors who come for the old pagodas walk among people who came for the views and the photographs, and both groups are in the same queues.
The honest summary: the mountain is worth the trip for the view over a completely flat province, for the pagoda complex and for the scale of the summit works. It is not a quiet nature walk, and on festival days it is not a calm religious visit either.

The three cable car lines
| Line | Connects | Length | Ride | Round trip, adult / child |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Van Son | Ba Den station at the foot to Van Son station on the summit | About 1,847 m | About 8 min | VND 450,000 / 350,000 |
| Chua Hang | Ba Den station to the Ba pagoda complex halfway up | About 1,210 m | 5 to 7 min | VND 250,000 / 150,000 |
| Tam An | Ba pagoda area to the summit, without returning to the foot | About 1,208 m | About 5 min | VND 450,000 / 350,000 |
Together the lines run for more than four kilometres, with glass-sided cabins for eight to ten people. Combination tickets with the summit buffet are sold too, at around VND 650,000 to 800,000 per adult in the 2026 list. In 2024 VnExpress gave the round trip as VND 250,000 for adults and VND 150,000 for children between 1 and 1.4 metres tall, plus a separate entry ticket to the tourism area of VND 16,000. The jump in the main summit fare since then is a reason to check the current price list before you go.
Fares and the child height bands are set by the operator and change, including resident discounts and festival prices. The figures above come from a 2026 resort-area news page, not from the operator's own fare table, which we could not read.

Opening hours
| Area | Weekdays | Weekends |
|---|---|---|
| Van Son and Chua Hang lines | 5:30 – 21:00 | 4:30 – 22:00 |
| Tam An line | 6:30 – 20:00 | 5:30 – 21:00 |
| Spiritual area (pagodas) | 6:00 – 20:30 | 5:00 – 21:30 |
| Summit buffet | 10:00 – 15:00 | Not stated |
These are the hours published in April 2026. In 2024 the summit line ran much shorter hours, from 7:45 to 16:00 on weekdays, so the schedule does move. Last-car times and holiday hours were not stated. If you plan a dawn or evening ride, confirm the times for your date.

A sensible order for the visit
- Arrive early. The lines open at dawn, and the summit is clearer and cooler before the afternoon cloud and rain.
- Take the Van Son line to the summit first, while the plaza is quiet, and give it an hour to an hour and a half.
- Ride the Tam An line down to the Ba pagoda area and spend an hour among the pagodas and caves.
- Return to the foot on the Chua Hang line. Walk any part of the stone path only if you are steady on wet steps.
That loop uses all three lines and avoids a second queue at the summit station. If you only want the pagodas, the Chua Hang line alone is cheaper. If you only want the view and the statue, the Van Son line is enough. Allow three hours for the loop on a quiet weekday and five or more on a weekend.
Advice for festival days follows the same logic: early morning, roughly 5:30 to 8:00, is the time recommended for the main pilgrim days, and the days either side of a festival peak are quieter than the main day.

When the crowds peak
The spring festival runs through the whole first lunar month. In 2026 it opened on the evening of the fourth day of Tet, and the busiest days are the first day of the lunar year and the full moon. Police and local authorities set traffic diversions and parking control on the roads to the mountain during the festival.
The second peak is Le via Ba, the festival of the Lady of the mountain, on the fourth to sixth days of the fifth lunar month, with the fifth as the main day. In 2025 it fell between 30 May and 1 June. Smaller peaks follow Buddhist dates: the Quan The Am festival, Buddha's birthday in the fourth lunar month, and Vu Lan in the seventh. Public holidays add their own: over 150,000 cable car trips were recorded during the 2026 National Day break, from 29 August to 2 September, and about four million trips in the first seven months of the year.

Getting there
The mountain is about 11 kilometres north-east of the former provincial town and about 100 kilometres from Ho Chi Minh City. Coaches from the city list Ba Den as a drop-off point, and the local bus 70-2 runs from Cu Chi bus station via the Holy See to the mountain, according to a 2025 travel blog. By car or hired driver, count on two to three hours each way, more on festival days when the roads near the mountain are controlled.
After the merger, the mountain area is listed under Binh Minh ward, Ninh Thanh ward and Duong Minh Chau commune. Older addresses give it as part of Tay Ninh city. Both point to the same place; use the station name, Ba Den station, for directions. Full options and fares are on the getting there page.

Who should skip it, and when not to go
- Anyone looking for quiet, in the first lunar month or on a public holiday. Queues and controlled traffic are part of the visit then.
- Visitors who mainly want a hike. The stone path is steep and slippery when wet, and most people now ride.
- Travellers on a tight budget who would only ride to the summit for a view in cloud. The summit is often in cloud, and the fare is the largest single cost of a Tay Ninh day.
- Afternoons in the rainy season, May to November, if you are counting on a clear view. Go in the morning instead.
If one of those applies, the Holy See alone, or the Holy See with a drive past the foot of the mountain, still makes a full day. See the Holy See page and when not to go.

Common questions
Questions readers ask
Which cable car goes to the summit?
The Van Son line, from Ba Den station at the foot. The Tam An line also reaches the summit, but from the pagoda area halfway up.
Can I walk up instead of riding?
There is an old stone pilgrim path to the pagodas. It is steep, and sources warn that the steps are slippery when wet. Most visitors ride at least one way.
How early do the cable cars start?
The April 2026 schedule shows 5:30 on weekdays and 4:30 at weekends for the main lines. Confirm for your date, because the hours have changed before.
Is the spring festival worth going for?
If you want to see the mountain as a pilgrimage at full strength, yes. If you want space and short queues, choose a weekday in another month.
