Is Tay Ninh still called Tay Ninh after the merger?

Yes. Resolution 202/2025/QH15 merged Long An and Tay Ninh into a province named Tay Ninh. The name Long An survives as the name of a ward in the former city of Tan An, where the provincial centre now is.

Can I see Ba Den Mountain and the Cao Dai Holy See in one day?

Yes, from Ho Chi Minh City, if you leave early. The road takes about two to three hours each way, so the day is long but workable. The day trip page breaks down the hours.

Is this an official tourism site?

No. It is an independent guide. It links to official sources so that you can check each fact yourself.

Do you sell tours or cable car tickets?

No. The guide does not sell or book anything and does not name or rate tour companies.

Destinations

Which places can I reach without a car?

Ba Den Mountain and the Cao Dai Holy See, by coach or by local bus via Cu Chi. Lang Sen, Lo Go–Xa Mat and Dau Tieng are hard to reach without a car or a hired driver.

Is Lang Sen close to Ba Den Mountain?

No. They are at opposite ends of the merged province. Plan Lang Sen as its own trip, usually from Tan An or as part of a Mekong Delta route.

Are the Cu Chi tunnels in Tay Ninh?

No. They are in Ho Chi Minh City. Many day trips stop there on the way to Tay Ninh, but this guide does not cover them.

Ba Den Mountain

Which cable car goes to the summit?

The Van Son line, from Ba Den station at the foot. The Tam An line also reaches the summit, but from the pagoda area halfway up.

Can I walk up instead of riding?

There is an old stone pilgrim path to the pagodas. It is steep, and sources warn that the steps are slippery when wet. Most visitors ride at least one way.

How early do the cable cars start?

The April 2026 schedule shows 5:30 on weekdays and 4:30 at weekends for the main lines. Confirm for your date, because the hours have changed before.

Is the spring festival worth going for?

If you want to see the mountain as a pilgrimage at full strength, yes. If you want space and short queues, choose a weekday in another month.

Cao Dai Holy See

Is there an entry fee at the Holy See?

None of the sources we checked lists one. Confirm on arrival, and do not pay anyone outside the gate who claims to sell entry.

Can I attend the ceremony as a non-believer?

Yes, as an observer from the upper galleries, dressed with shoulders and knees covered.

Do I have to take my shoes off?

Sources disagree. Wear shoes that are easy to remove and follow what the staff ask on the day.

Which ceremony is quietest for visitors?

The 6:00 and 18:00 ceremonies. The noon one is the busiest because most day trips are timed for it.

Lang Sen wetland

Is Lang Sen the same as Tram Chim?

No. Both are in the Plain of Reeds, but Tram Chim is a national park in a neighbouring province. Lang Sen is the reserve in the former Long An, now part of Tay Ninh.

When are the lotus flowers out?

The sources we checked do not give a flowering calendar. Lotus covers about 50 hectares of the reserve; ask the reserve when you arrange the visit.

Will I see sarus cranes?

Possibly, but do not count on it. The reserve lists them among its globally threatened species, and their numbers vary between years.

Can I visit Lang Sen as a day trip from Ho Chi Minh City?

Yes, by car, but it is about 140 kilometres each way. Leave early or sleep in Tan An the night before.

Lo Go–Xa Mat and Dau Tieng

Can I visit Lo Go–Xa Mat without a guide?

You can reach the park by car, but activities such as boat trips, cycling routes and camping are arranged through the park. Contact it before you go.

Is the park near the Cambodian border crossing?

It lies on the border in the former Tan Bien district. The park is not a crossing point; use an official border gate if you are travelling on to Cambodia.

Can I swim in Dau Tieng Lake?

The sources we checked mention camping, boats and paddleboarding, not swimming areas. It is a working reservoir; ask locally and do not swim alone.

Which is better for birds, Lo Go–Xa Mat or Lang Sen?

They are different. Lo Go–Xa Mat has forest birds and river banks; Lang Sen has large numbers of waterbirds in a wetland. Choose by habitat and by which end of the province you will be in.

The merger explained

What is the capital of Tay Ninh now?

The provincial centre is in Long An ward, the former city of Tan An. The old provincial town near Ba Den is no longer the capital.

Does Long An province still exist?

No. Since 1 July 2025 it has been part of Tay Ninh. The name survives as Long An ward, the capital ward.

Did visa or border rules change with the merger?

No. Entry rules are national. The border gates to Cambodia operate as before; check UK or your own government's travel advice for entry requirements.

Is Hoa Thanh still a place?

As a name, yes. As an administrative unit, no. The Holy See area is now Long Hoa ward.

Getting there

How long does it take to get to Tay Ninh from Ho Chi Minh City?

About two to three hours by coach or car for roughly 100 kilometres. Local buses with a change at Cu Chi take longer.

Is there a train to Tay Ninh?

No. There is no railway to the province. All public transport is by road.

Where do coaches drop off?

Listings show Tay Ninh bus station, the Holy See main gate, Ba Den Mountain and Moc Bai. Check the drop-off on your ticket.

Can I ride a motorbike from Ho Chi Minh City?

Only legally with an international driving permit, your national licence and insurance, according to UK travel advice. The highway is busy with trucks.

Day trip or overnight

Is one day enough for Tay Ninh?

For Ba Den Mountain and the Holy See, yes, if you start early. For the national park, the lake or Lang Sen, add a day or plan a separate trip.

Should I see the Holy See or Ba Den first?

On a day trip, the Holy See at noon and Ba Den in the afternoon is the usual order. In the rainy season, the mountain first in the morning is the safer bet for views, if you can start very early.

Where should I stay overnight?

Near Ba Den Mountain or in the former provincial town, for the northern sights; in Tan An for Lang Sen.

Festivals and seasons

When is the Ba Den spring festival?

Through the whole first lunar month, the weeks after Tet. The busiest days are the first day of the year and the full moon.

When is Le via Ba?

On the fourth to sixth days of the fifth lunar month, with the fifth as the main day. In 2025 that was 30 May to 1 June.

Is the rainy season a bad time to visit?

Not necessarily. Mornings are often clear and the rain usually comes in the afternoon. Plan the mountain early and keep the afternoon flexible.

When is Lang Sen worth visiting?

In the flood season, September to November, for high water. The dry season concentrates waterbirds but can mean low water in a drought year.

Read in full: Festivals and seasons.

Practical information

What should I wear to the Cao Dai Holy See?

Clothes that cover your shoulders and knees, and shoes that are easy to take off. Remove hats and sunglasses inside.

Can I pay by card in Tay Ninh?

For larger costs, often yes. For food stalls, buses, parking and boats, bring cash in small notes.

Is Tay Ninh safe for visitors?

Generally, yes. The risks UK advice describes are road safety, bag snatching and petty theft in crowds, methanol in drinks and the heat.

Do I need a separate permit for the border area?

The sources we checked do not mention one for visiting the national park, but the park is on the border. Contact it before you go and carry your passport or a copy.

Read in full: Practical information.

When not to go

What is the worst time to visit Ba Den Mountain?

The first lunar month and national holidays, for crowds; rainy-season afternoons, for views.

Is Tay Ninh worth it in the rainy season?

Yes, with mornings on the mountain. The rain usually comes in the afternoon.

Should I skip Lang Sen in the dry season?

Not necessarily: birds concentrate then. But the late dry season of a drought year can mean low water. The flood season, September to November, is the safer choice for scenery.
