Festivals and seasons: when Tay Ninh is busy, wet or quiet
Tay Ninh runs on two calendars at once: the lunar calendar of its festivals and the dry and rainy seasons of the south. Together they decide whether you meet short queues and clear skies, or a pilgrimage crowd under an afternoon storm.
The year at a glance
Weather only, from the southern dry season (December to April) and rainy season (May to November). Festival peaks move with the lunar calendar; see the table below. ● ideal · ◐ good · ○ poor.
The dry season from December to April is the comfortable time for the mountain and the north. The rainy season, May to November, brings an afternoon downpour on many days, with mornings often clear. Tay Ninh averages about 27.4 °C over the year, with 1,800 to 2,200 millimetres of rain. The Lang Sen wetland is the exception: it is at its fullest in the flood season, September to November.

The Ba Den spring festival
The spring festival is the largest event in the province's year. It runs through the whole first lunar month, the weeks after Tet, when families from across the south come to pray for the year ahead. The busiest days are the first day of the year and the full moon in the middle of the month. In 2026 the festival opened on the evening of the fourth day of Tet, and police, traffic inspectors and local authorities ran diversions and parking control on the roads to the mountain.
What that means in practice: long queues at the cable car stations, slow roads near the mountain, full coaches from Ho Chi Minh City and full rooms nearby. UK travel advice also notes that petty crime rises around Tet. Keep bags closed and in front of you in the crowds.

Le via Ba and the summer festivals
Le via Ba honours the Lady of the mountain, Linh Son Thanh Mau, on the fourth to sixth days of the fifth lunar month, with the fifth as the main day. The rites start at dawn on the fourth with the bathing of the statue, and evenings bring lantern offerings at the summit. Advice from the resort is to go early, around 5:30 to 8:00, and to choose the fourth or sixth day rather than the fifth if you want fewer people.
Because the fifth lunar month falls in late May or June, Le via Ba usually coincides with the start of the rains. In 2025 it fell on a holiday weekend, under cloud and scattered showers, and thousands still came.

Public holidays
National holidays fill the mountain even outside the festival calendar. During the National Day break from 29 August to 2 September 2026, over 150,000 cable car trips were recorded, 29 per cent more than a year earlier. The same report gives about four million trips in the first seven months of 2026. Expect similar pressure around Reunification Day and Labour Day at the end of April and the start of May.

The rainy season
From May to November, the south has what the national tourism authority calls a dependable afternoon downpour, usually lasting a few hours. Mornings are often clear. Showers can come with thunder and strong wind, and the weather can change quickly. For a visit, that means mountain in the morning, temple at noon, and indoor or covered plans for the afternoon.
The stone steps and paths on Ba Den become slippery in the wet, so wear shoes with grip. Check the cable car notices on the day; operations can be adjusted in heavy rain or storms. In the delta, UK advice notes flooding in October and November, which matters for the Lang Sen route.

Quiet windows
- Weekdays in December, after the rains and before Tet.
- Weekdays in March, once the spring festival is over and before the April holidays, if you can cope with heat.
- Weekday mornings in the rainy season, with the afternoon kept free.
- For the Holy See, any day that is not one of its two main feasts, at the 6:00 or 18:00 ceremony.
Common questions

When is the Ba Den spring festival?
Through the whole first lunar month, the weeks after Tet. The busiest days are the first day of the year and the full moon.
When is Le via Ba?
On the fourth to sixth days of the fifth lunar month, with the fifth as the main day. In 2025 that was 30 May to 1 June.
Is the rainy season a bad time to visit?
Not necessarily. Mornings are often clear and the rain usually comes in the afternoon. Plan the mountain early and keep the afternoon flexible.
When is Lang Sen worth visiting?
In the flood season, September to November, for high water. The dry season concentrates waterbirds but can mean low water in a drought year.
